Position Description

The Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, invites applications for an exceptional senior scholar in the Learning Sciences to assume the position of Professor as it seeks to deepen and expand its influence and impact. We are seeking an individual who will provide research leadership towards creating bold solutions to complex educational problems.

The appointment will commence July 1, 2017, or at a mutually agreeable date.

The successful applicant will have an established internationally recognized program of research excellence and impact in the Learning Sciences. The successful candidate will collaborate with the faculty members within the Learning Sciences in the Werklund School and with stakeholder groups in schools and communities.    This tenured appointment will be made at the rank of professor and involves teaching, research, service and supervision of graduate students. 

The successful candidate must have:

  • Doctorate in Education
  • Outstanding record of nationally and internationally recognized research, publication in high impact journals, and grantsmanship (commensurate with the professorial rank);
  • Demonstrated capability in graduate- and undergraduate-level teaching, and graduate student supervision; and
  • Demonstrated community engagement in the area of digital learning environments and the learning processes through which people, particularly children and youth, come to understand difficult core concepts in the context of digital learning environments.

Applicants are invited to submit a curriculum vitae, a statement outlining research, post-secondary teaching and leadership experience, evidence of collaboration, a brief description of present and aspiring contributions to the field, reprints of two (2) representative academic publications, and the names of and contact information for three referees.
