Position Description

The Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary is seeking sessional instructors to teach International Foundations Program courses for the 2017 Spring and Summer (A/B) Sessions as follows:

Spring (A) Session: May 8 - June 27

Summer (B) Session: July 4 - August 16

Courses

  • IFPX 280 A/B - Academic Writing & Grammar
  • IFPX 283 A/B - Reading Comprehension & Proficiency
  • IFPX 287 A/B - Listening Comprehension & Oral Fluency
  • IFPX 290 A/B - Academic Writing & Grammar
  • IFPX 293 A/B - Reading Comprehension & Proficiency
  • IFPX 297 A/B - Listening Comprehension & Oral Fluency

Note: Instructors may be hired for either or both Spring/Summer (A/B) course section(s).

The International Foundations Program provides required English language skills to academically qualified students who do not meet the English language proficiency requirements of the University of Calgary. It also serves as a laboratory facility for teacher education (B.Ed.) students and graduate students specializing in teaching English as an Additional Language (EAL) and applied linguistics.

Sessional Instructors will teach students in the International Foundations Program and will serve as instructor of record for student teachers who are assigned to IFP for their field experience.

Position Requirements

International Foundations Program: To be considered, applicants must hold a PhD specializing in Second Language Acquisition, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or 2nd Language Literacy Education. Successful candidates must have proven experience in post-secondary EAP/ESL/SLA education using a variety of current pedagogical approaches, and a strong commitment to English language and/or bilingual education. Candidates with a proven track record in English language instruction for Science and/or Engineering at a tertiary level are strongly encouraged to apply. Non-native speakers of English must be able to demonstrate proficiency and fluency in English equivalent to iBT TOEFL score of 110 or higher. Successful applicants will be expected to work effectively in a fast-paced and highly collaborative post-secondary teaching and learning environment.
